Josef Mengele was born first of three sons, growing up with his father Karl and his mother Walburga. His father, being an industrialist, owned a local plant and manufactured farming equipment. Unlike his father, Mengele’s mother was extremely strict with a catholic upbringing, and according to Josef, not capable of loving. Even to Karl, Walburga was hard to live with. This did not affect the way that Mengele acted in his younger years; for he was a pleasant child to be around, and an overall bright student. Things took a slight change for the worse later on in his life. Mengele’s father hoped he would work at the industry as a family business, but Mengele had other ideas. He wanted to do more with science and get into anthropology. This would become a big part of Mengele’s life, creating a story that’s never forgotten.
